Day 1: Arusha to Mandara Hut Embark on your Kilimanjaro journey with a drive to Marangu Gate. After registration, begin the trek through montane forest, spotting wildlife and enjoying the lush scenery. Trek for about 3-4 hours, covering approximately 8 km, before reaching Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut Start the day early with a hearty breakfast at Mandara Hut. Trek through moorland, ascending towards Horombo Hut. Enjoy the changing landscapes, from tropical rainforest to heathland, and stop for lunch with a view of Mawenzi. Trek for about 7 hours, covering around 11 km, to reach Horombo Hut.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut Take a rest day at Horombo Hut to aid in acclimatization. Depending on how you feel, your guide may recommend staying at the hut or hiking up to Mawenzi Base Camp and returning to Horombo Hut for the night.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut Continue your ascent towards the summit, trekking across the alpine desert climate. Trek for about 4 hours, covering approximately 8 km, from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. Enjoy lunch along the way as you prepare your body for the final push to the summit.
Day 5: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak Rise early for the summit ascent, starting around 1 am. Trek through the glacial climate, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, by 7 am. Spend time at the summit taking photographs before beginning the descent back to Kibo Hut. Trek for about 5 hours ascending and 9 hours descending, covering approximately 6 km ascending and 8 km descending.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate Descend from Horombo Hut to Mandara Hut, then continue to Marangu Gate. Trek for about 7 hours, covering approximately 18 km in total. Sign your name in the register at Marangu Gate and receive your summit certificate before driving back to Arusha for well-deserved rest and celebrations.
